Fall RASHAD Events featuring Duke Ellington

Dr. Regennia Williams of the CSU History Department cordially invites you to attend “From Grace Cathedral to Trinity Cathedral and Beyond,” a September 2013 series of workshops and concerts that will showcase Duke Ellington’s liturgical jazz and other forms of sacred music.
In September of 1965, Ellington presented his first full concert of sacred jazz at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.  Our September 2013 concerts will take place at Trinity Cathedral (Episcopal Diocese of Ohio) and First Unitarian Church (Shaker Heights, Ohio), and the list of guest performers includes Dr. Sharon Brown Cheston (a Music Department alum), the Spiritual Gifts Choir, and Drene Ivy and the Spiritual Gifts Jazz Quintet.
Please see the attached flyer for the detailed schedule of musical activities.
This series is part of a larger program, “Come Sunday @ 70: Duke Ellington’s Sacred Jazz in World History and Culture, c. 1943-2013.”  The program is made possible with cash and/or in-kind support from the Ohio Humanities Council, Trinity Cathedral, First Unitarian Church, and the following CSU offices:  The CLASS Dean’s Office, the Department of History, the Michael Schwartz Library, and the Vice President for University Engagement.  (List current as of August 20, 2013.)
