Summer Teacher Institute (August 3-5, 2015) and follow-up programs during AY 2015-16

Cleveland State University’s Department of History and the Educational Service Center (ESC) of Cuyahoga County announce a 2015-2016 professional development program open to all Ohio K-12 teachers and administrators that is focused on exploring and sharing content knowledge and pedagogy inspired by the humanities.  Migration in Global Context: History, Narrative and Project-Based Learning will draw on local, national, and global migration stories and scholarship focusing on overarching questions that model historical inquiry and thinking skills. Dr. Shelley Rose, Cleveland State University historian, is the academic director for the project.

Events: A three-day Summer Institute (August 3-5, 2015) includes presentations by historians and humanities scholars, field experiences, and demonstrations of innovative and interdisciplinary pedagogical methods by master teachers that integrate humanities-based teaching and learning.  Fall and spring 2015-16 programs include guided discussions, gallery walks, book study, and film. A spring 2016 symposium will highlight presentations by nationally-known humanities scholars and teacher-developed curricular connections and educational materials.

Professional development contact hours will be awarded by the ESC of Cuyahoga County, or graduate credit at a reduced rate will be offered through Cleveland State University.
