The department also honored retiring Associate Dean Joyce Mastboom, who has been a member of the Department of History since 1988. Dr. Mastboom served as department chair from 2002-2009, and was the director of the Liberal Studies program. In 2011, she was named Associate Dean for the Curriculum in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Dr. Mastboom has been a tireless advocate for history and is a key supporter of faculty and students. She regularly attends project fairs presented by students in our social studies and history courses and students are always impressed both by her genuine interest in their work and her incisive questions, urging them to think more deeply. We wish her all the best as she begins her retirement!
